My Personal Goals and Plans for Volume in 2021

Happy New Year

Well, this week started great, with my motivation levels returning to high peaks I’ve experienced in years past; however, on Wednesday, myself and everyone else in the nation was impacted by the day’s events.

Honestly, I was distracted, and high amounts of anxiety returned, causing me to push back writing this newsletter. I had some difficult conversations with close ones that needed to happen, and I’m happy we finally cleared the air. Regardless of the steps taken in the days following the event, we still have a large amount of needed change, and I pray for the help of everyone, regardless of their views.

I’m still finding it hard to write today, but I wanted to share what has been on my mind regarding personal goals and plans for Volume moving forward in 2021.

Volume is a newsletter where you’ll learn about my favorite brands, opinions on dressing well, and great pieces to add to your wardrobe. Subscribe here.

Expand My Wardrobe

One thing I’m eagerly looking forward to is expanding my wardrobe. While I’ve always been one for “less is more,” I’m entering a stage in my life where I want both quality and quantity. I recognize that most people are in the opposite camp of wanting to downsize, especially after wearing the same thing every day during quarantine.

While I agree, some people need to trim back on their clothing consumption; it’s great to see some acknowledge having too much and either donating or selling what’s not wanted or worth wearing anymore.

As I make these new additions, I’m trying to buy from eco-friendly, ethical, and quality-focused companies. I also want to nail the size the first time if ordering online. It’s crazy how much returns cause additional waste, and I’m trying to limit that as best I can this year.

More to come on this next week.

Start Writing a Book

The idea began late last year as I started writing this newsletter, that perhaps I could come up with enough valuable content to turn into a book on men’s style.

I’m an avid consumer of books that address style inspiration, how-to’s, and historical backgrounds on brands and designers. Even though there are many, many books out there that cover this topic, I still feel my take is slightly different and worth writing about to share with others in the world.

I admit, though, that I’m a relatively brand new writer and still have much to learn. It’s going to take time, research, and possibly money to achieve this, and for now, I’m willing to do all of that.

More than likely, it won’t be finished or published by the end of this year. The only thing I’d like to achieve is to start.

Focus on Sustainability

Writing essay length newsletters weekly has been more challenging than I thought.

This year, I’ve been thinking a fair amount about sustainability, and I’m trying to figure out ways to maintain consistent content without burning out.

Here are some of my ideas:

  • Shorter, weekly posts on things that I’m interested in

  • Monthly posts that are similar in length to those I’ve shared previously

  • Q&A’s where I can answer any questions you may have

  • Interviews with designers or influencers in the fashion industry

I’ve sincerely appreciated all the feedback I’ve received from you thus far, and it is my goal to continue providing valuable content. I’m also open to any feedback, especially if there’s something you’d like to see more or less of.

Experiment With Content

Along with maintaining sustainability, I also want to experiment with different types of content this year.

My vision for Volume is to eventually become a platform for learning about men’s style and crafting your wardrobe in a versatile and comfortable way for you to wear.

With that, there are many ways to deliver content to you all, and I’m going to try out some different things this year. I appreciate you being here and bearing with me as I test things out.

A few ideas I’ve had around this are:

  • YouTube videos on style walkthroughs, lessons, and wardrobe reviews

  • Podcast episodes talking with other’s about men’s style and fashion

  • Blog posts that go further into detail about the topics covered in this newsletter

  • Zoom sessions for asking and answering questions

These are just a few things that sound interesting to me, and again, I’m open to hearing any ideas you all have for anything you’d like to see from me this year.

Thank you for reading
